Lo Chi

The Lo Chi is one of Turkey Mountain's best trails, in my humble opinion, because it is so different from the rest of what Turkey has to offer. Relatively flat and free of major obstacles, its one of the few trails besides the Snake fit for a recovery run. It lines the Eastern base of Turkey amidst some of the tallest trees I've seen in Oklahoma. Trees hanging over from the cliffside and huge vines create a mulitlayerd, jungle- like look when the foliage is out. It also happens to be the location of the petroglyp cave (at least according to the official map), of wich I was determined to find yesterday afternoon.

Man, I bushwacked to just about every boulder and even climbed a few rock faces looking for this hole in the rock. I even stole out to the train tracks, looking for another way in. Either this cave is well hidden, or I was looking in the wrong place again.

Not that I'm complaining. It was a solid workout and, to be honest, the undiscovered secrets are what make this place so alluring.

  1. Hit me up sometime. I'll give you the cave tour. There are 6 caves along the bluffs. Some are deeper than others, and offer a decent shelter from the elements. A couple are slight depressions in the rock with a good overhang, but would keep you dry in a driving rainstorm. One goes deep--maybe 40 feet back and is quite dark. All are hard to find, but can be visited in an hour or so.
