40 days, 40 photos (Day 2)

40 days, 40 photos (Day 1; 7/24/13)

I've been feeling a bit uninspired with the camera lately. My running is better than ever, but more often than not the Canon is left at home. Interesting opportunities just don't come as easy in our hazy and green- washed landscapes of midsummer.

But I also haven't been looking very hard, to be honest. Or rather, looking for the usual things in the usual places; what began as a means of discovery has become habitual. Yes, I'm stuck in a photography rut.

When in a rut, I find that a little shock to the system is needed in order to move forward again: some kind of crazy challenge that pushes one to the limits and forces the breakdown of old habits. The goal of my latest scheme is to find one unique shot every day for the next forty days and post it here. I can only choose one photo per day, no matter how many awesome subjects present themselves. On the flip side, I must shoot something unique, no matter how bland a day it seems to be. Alright, there you have it, now let the fun begin.

Summer on Turkey

For the last two Saturdays I've managed to get up early enough to get in a long run at Turkey before the heat. Watching the sun rise over town from the ridge never gets old.

What a wonderful surprise it was to run into these on the red trail.

My favorite.

Awesome. I wonder who is responsible for this and if they have plans for more?

A run through Tower Grove

We were in St. Louis over the weekend for a wedding, and I managed to get out for a short run on Saturday morning. The road running routine can be such a drag during these hot summer months, so the opportunity to explore a new urban environment on foot is just what the doctor ordered.
